Celebrating the life of

Forrest West Baker

March 29, 1952 - March 20, 2024

Forrest West Baker

Forrest West Baker, known affectionately as "West," passed away on March 20th, 2024 at the age of 71. Born on March 29th, 1952 to Henry & Marguerite Baker, West was a kind and caring man who had a ferocious appetite for learning. He was a proud graduate of Armstrong Atlantic State University's Nuclear Medicine program and enjoyed sharing his love of music with others.

In 1999, West fell in love with Joyce, and the two were married at St. Francis of the Islands Episcopal Church. West was a loving family man who always made time for his wife, grandkids, and great-grandkids. He had a passion for reading and enjoyed leisurely strolls through the Islands Library and weekly visits to Barnes and Noble. Reading, sharing stories, and cooking meals for his family brought him great joy, and he loved to talk and share stories during Friday dinners with his loved ones.

West was preceded in death by his father, Henry (Big Poppy), his mother, Marguerite (Margie), and his great-granddaughter Blake. He is survived by his wife Joyce, his daughter Jamie, his brother Jim (R.J.), his step-children David Cox, Susan Perry, Steven (Melanie) Cox, & Donna (George) Kelly, his grandchildren Angela (Tommy) Kircher & Amy (Stephen) Howe, nieces Jennifer & Lauren, and his great-grandchildren Asher Goodman, Logan Howe, and Emery Howe.

West will be greatly missed, and the love he shared will continue to live on in our memories. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday morning, May 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of the Islands, located at 590 Walthour Rd in Savannah, GA 31410. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Diabetes.org or Lung.org.
